Emily Kame Kngwarreye and John Mawurndjul

Artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye was born in 1910 in Utopia, Australia, and died on Sept. 6, 1996.  She didn't start painting until she was in her 70s, and was still considered one of the country's greatest artists.  In my opinion, Emily's work doesn't really create any specific image(s).  It is abstract and very colorful.  I like the different colors she uses as they give you a nice warm feeling.

Artist John Mawumdjul was born in 1954 near Mumeka.  He is a Kuninjku bark painter and sculptor and has received recognition for his work worldwide.  John got tutored in painting during the 1970s by his older brother Jimmy Njiminjuma and uncle Peter Marralwanga.  In my opinion, in the work of Mawumjul a lot of the creatures portrayed are almost demonic like.  He uses a lot of the same color schemes throughout his work.
